Groundsmen and Greenkeepers from all over the North West will be converging on Eirias Park Stadium, Colwyn Bay
next month (18th March) for the first one day seminar and trade show
specifically organised to serve the region.
This joint, non profit making initiative (exhibitors have
been asked for modest donations towards a sandwich lunch for all those
attending) by Conwy Borough Council and Vitax Amenity includes a free seminar
programme with subjects ranging from ‘A Biological Approach to Pest Management
in Green Flag Parks' by Becker Underwood to ‘The Use of Selective Weed Killers
and Weed Control Products' by Vitax Amenity.
Working demonstrations of ‘line marking', ‘spiking and
slitting' and ‘sandbanding' will take place in the central arena, which will
encircled by trade stands representing companies and organisations as diverse
as Tacit, Sisis, Denby Plant Hire and The Welsh College of Horticulture.
Colin Turner,
area sales manager for Vitax Amenity, who together with Peter Barton-Price, Principle
Parks Officer for Conwy Borough Council is the brains behind the show, says
that as well as promoting councils and local authorities the event is designed
for groundstaff and groundspeople who wouldn't ordinarily be able to attend the
larger trade shows such as Saltex. "When I was Grounds Manager for North
Yorkshire County Council we never got to Windsor
because it was too far," he explains. "These days it makes sense to augment the
big shows with smaller, localised events which serve those in the industry
working in a specific area."
The Eirias Park show is on Wed. 18th March at Eirias
Park Stadium, Colwyn
Bay from 10.00am to
4.30pm.
