PLANTSCAPE ENJOYS A DEGREE OF SUCCESS AS IT GOES UNDER COVER FOR ITS LOCAL UNIVERSITY
A floral features supplier well
known for brightening up Britain’s streets went under cover when it
used hundreds of plants to decorate a university’s graduation
ceremony.
Plantscape, based near Ashbourne in
Derbyshire, brought its products inside for a change when it provided
a display for the two-day ceremony, hosted by the University of
Derby.
The event, held in the city’s
Assembly Rooms venue, saw 1,300 students receive their degrees,
including BBC Five Live Chief Football correspondent Mike Ingham and
former Scotland, Derby County and Nottingham Forest footballer Archie
Gemmill, who both became honorary Masters of the university.
Plantscape marked the occasion with
an eye-catching seasonal show made up of dozens of scarlet
poinsettias, ivies and cyclamen in a display which has traditionally
been provided by Derby City Council but, following the demise of the
authority’s glasshouses in cost-cutting measures, saw the
university search elsewhere.
Mark Stone, managing director of
Plantscape, said: “Normally you’ll find our staff installing
planters and hanging baskets by the side of the road or in public
spaces, so it is always novel when we’re asked to work inside.
“We were
extremely proud to be approached by our local university and we have
had some tremendous feedback about how nice the display looked. We
would love to be asked to decorate the hall again next year.”
