API BACKS CHILDREN’S RIGHT CAMPAIGN

The API has become a partner of the Right Year for Children (RY4C) campaign to support children’s right to play. RY4C will be active throughout 2012, backed-up by the Children’s Commissioner, Maggie Atkinson, in calling for greater consideration of the UNCRC in government decision-making.

John Croasdale, Chairman of the Association of Play Industries (API), said: “We support the Right Year for Children campaign in its goal to implement the UN convention on children’s rights into UK law. This can only help to raise greater consideration for play in government decision-making, as well as giving children a stronger voice on their right to play.”

Supporters of the campaign will sport the attached logo, designed by a schoolgirl named Trishna Jethwa, in their press materials and at promotional events through 2012.

More updates will follow throughout the year. For more information, visit: www.ry4c.org

“Every child has the right to engage in play and recreational activities. Member governments shall respect and promote the right of the child and shall encourage the provision of appropriate and equal opportunities for recreational and leisure activity.”
